Kathryn Burrell is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Communication at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, specializing in Film Studies. Her research focuses on cinematic genre theory, popular film, and streaming, with particular attention to what shapes the stories we tell and how we tell them.

She holds an M.A. in Communication with an emphasis in Documentary Studies from Northern Arizona University and a B.A. in Theatre and Film Studies from Georgia Southern University, earned while working with the university’s Emmy award-winning multimedia office in broadcasting, production, and photography.

Kate is also a dyslexic thinker, which means her approach to research and storytelling is shaped by non-linear insight, pattern recognition, and a strong intuitive grasp of complex systems. These strengths fuel both her academic work and her creative practice.
