Expectations weren't high to begin with, but points can always be given for creativity. Seth Rogan and James Franco's most recent release features all the penis jokes and male-based humor one could ever be exposed to. Even with a respectable cast of females, only a few jokes will land well with a female audience, leaving much to be desired. Responses by men seem to vary, some thinking it's a comedy hit, and others acknowledging the low class jokes and easy humor. They certainly didn't have to work very hard to brainstorm the sex and bathroom jokes.
That's really all that can be said for this animated piece. Aside from "lifting the veil of reality" on the secret lives of food that we buy at the grocery store, all of the humor and marketability of this film has been seen before. Ladies, if you want to make your man happy, just grin and bear it. A few jokes may land here and there, but overall you're going to be sorely disappointed. Even if he enjoys it, you'll leave the theatre feeling degraded by the patriarchy. That's really all that can be said.
Directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon. Starring Seth Rogan, James Franco, Michael Cera, Bill Hader, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, Selma Hayeck.
