Review #41 | "Doctor Strange" (2016)

There is no doubt that Marvel Studios has engraved itself in the history of cinema as well as a staple of American culture. The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a testament to their lasting presence. With so many films released with many characters heading their own franchises, fans of the films are turning to the comic experts asking how much further can we go? Well, thanks to the resident Marvel expert that runs in each of our social circles, a lot of those questions are answered in thousands of different scenarios. The latest installment to the Marvel Studios Filmography keeps the spirit of imagination and fantasy at an all time high. "Dr. Strange" delivers a new tricks as well as some pretty serious circumstances to the world's greatest band of heroes.

Benedict Cumberbatch, experienced film and theatre actor as well as a respectable "Shakespeare dude" (as the author has heard him described) heads the latest Marvel franchise as the selfish turned not-as-selfish Dr. Steven Strange. Strange, perhaps the most accomplished neurosurgeon in the world, finds his life turned upside down by a car crash that resulted in the reconstruction and general uselessness of his hands. He retires all of his resources into trying to be cured, but right when his resources are depleted he learns of a mystical place where he could be cured and resume his successful career. Ensue amazing kaleidoscope effects, some sleek costumes, and a few more oh-my-god status actors and you've got a hit...literally and figuratively.

Without giving up too much detail, the discoveries made in "Dr. Strange" will change the tides, at least temporarily, in favor of The Avengers. That is, whenever Dr. Strange is partnered with one or more of our more established franchises. Good things come to those who wait.
